Why does my AI copy still sound like AI?

The short answer

There's a limit to how good raw AI output gets, no matter how clever the prompt. The fix isn't another prompt, it's a human pass: read it cold, cut what sounds formulaic, and put your own voice back in before it ships.

Prompting has a ceiling

You can keep refining the instructions, and you'll get incremental gains. But past a certain point, more prompting doesn't buy much. The people getting good results aren't prompting harder. They're editing harder.

The test that actually works

Read it cold, like a stranger sent it to you. Then ask:

  • Does this sound formulaic, or does it sound like a person?
  • Would I recognize this as AI-written if I saw it somewhere else?
  • Is there a single specific detail in here that only my business could have written?

If you flinch at any of those, rewrite it. Don't go ask for another version.

What the human pass adds

Your judgment is the part that can't be automated: what to cut, what to say plainly, which story is worth telling, what your customers actually call things. That's taste, and it's built from knowing your business.

The bottom line

Treat every AI draft as a draft. Build one required editing pass into your process before anything goes out with your name on it.
