Will customers buy from a brand they've never heard of if AI recommends it?

The short answer

Many will consider it. In a 2026 Razorfish study, 94% of U.S. AI users said they would consider a brand they had never heard of if an AI assistant recommended it, and 51% said they had bought from an AI-recommended brand. Other research shows most people still check reviews and other sources first.

What this means for smaller brands

You don't have to be the biggest name to make the shortlist. If AI tools find strong, trustworthy information about you, you can be recommended alongside, or instead of, better-known competitors.

People still double-check

A recommendation starts the journey. Shoppers often search your name, read reviews, and visit your website before buying. Your site and reviews need to finish the job.

Audit what AI can find about you

  • Reviews on Google and industry sites
  • Online discussions, including forums like Reddit
  • Comparison articles and editorial coverage
  • Mentions from creators, partners, and customers
  • How AI tools describe you when you ask them

The bottom line

Your real brand equity is what the internet says about you. Make it accurate, positive, and easy to find.
