Why doesn't ChatGPT mention my business?

The short answer

ChatGPT and other large language models (LLMs) recommend businesses they can find and trust. If your business information is inconsistent, your website doesn't clearly explain what you do, or few other sites mention you, AI tools have little reason to include you in their answers.

What an LLM is

An LLM, or large language model, is the technology behind AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Many of them can search the web and summarize what they find. More and more, they're the first place people go when choosing a business.

How to become easier to recommend

  • Keep your name, address, phone, and services identical everywhere they appear online
  • Keep a steady flow of recent, detailed reviews
  • Write pages that answer specific questions in plain language
  • Get mentioned by others: local directories, partners, your chamber, and the press
  • Make sure your website loads fast and isn't blocking search tools

Check where you stand

Ask a few AI tools the questions your customers ask, like “Who's the best [service] near [city]?” Note who shows up and why. That tells you what to strengthen first.

The bottom line

The more consistent and trustworthy signals you send, the easier you are for AI tools to find and recommend.
